The Pioneers went on the road Monday night to take on Algonac in the last away match of the regular season. Algonac has some very gritty – tough wins under their belts this season and were hoping to add another one against the Pioneers. Algonac came out strong and took the early lead by taking both baker games. 181 – 150 and 187 – 170. Senior Robert Smith, Junior Skyler Hyvonen and sophomore Ben Thorton lead the baker efforts for the Pioneers. It was the first time all season that Cros-Lex dropped both baker games to put themselves in a 10 – 0 hole. This actually worked in the Pioneers favor and served as a wake up call. Moving into the 1st set of head to head games, it was total domination by Cros-Lex who took all 5 games and led in total pin count by a sounding 246 pins. Junior Skyler Hyvonen led the scoring with an outstanding 234 game. Senior Nick Youtsos was next with a 214. Senior Logan Miller rolled a 201. Senior Robert Smith pitched a 198 game and Sophomore Kenny Allan added a 189 game. The 5 game sweep cut the lead to 1 point in favor of Algonac, but the Pioneers were still fired up moving into the 2nd set of head to head games. The Pioneers would dominate again by taking 4 out of 5 games and securing points for total series pin count. It was a great display of leadership as the seniors took charge in this set. Nick Youtsos lead the way with a big 235 game. Robert Smith chipped in a 204 and Logan Miller shot a 203. It was a great win for us on the road. The boys refused to hang their heads and showed alot of fight in the come from behind victory to push their record to 11-2 on the season.
