CrosLex traveled to North Branch Thursday to take on an undefeated 8th grade team. The Pioneers came out intense and worked very hard only to find themselves in foul trouble early. Cheyenne Hillock and Alleyna Martinez came off the bench early to provided the team with some fantastic defense and leadership. Aubrey Connelly had to log heavy first half minutes at the point and handled the pressure like a pro. Grace Stillson played a tough game and scored a big bucket to end the first to pull CrosLex within 1. North Branch caught fire in the second quarter outscoring the Pioneers 16-5 and taking a 12 point lead into half. CrosLex came out of half time determined to chip away at the lead outscoring North Branch by 4. The 4th quarter started the way the 3rd quarter ended. The Pioneers wanted to show what they were capable of. They battled their way back into the game. They gained confidence with every big rebound and every big bucket. With the bench jumping up with every big play the players continued to gain more confidence. Rankin taking the ball to the rim and hitting free throw after free throw. Schultz taking control of the paint and Martinez running around making play after play the Pioneers somehow found away to win. CrosLex outscored North Branch by 11 in the 4th. Rankin led all scorers with 16 and Schultz had 12. Marinez hit two big threes on the night.
